Create a new net
Purpose:
Creates a new net. Everthing you have drawn will be deleted.
- select the menuitem "File - New"
- if the drawing area isn't empty the following warning
dialog will appear and you have to confirm the operation.
Insert a router
You have two
possibilities:
- click with the right mouse into the drawing area and
select "Insert Router"
- select the menuitem "Insert - Router"
and then click into the drawing area
Change the name of a router
- Click with the right mouse onto the router and select
"Properties..." from the context menu. The property dialog of this router will
be displayed.
- Enter the new name for this router into the textfield
"Name:"

and confirm with:
- OK: the new name will
be displayed under the router and the dialog will be closed.
- Apply: the new name
will be displayed under the router and the dialog stays open.
- Cancel: the router
keeps his old name and the dialog will be closed.
Add or delete interfaces to a router
Each router can obtain four interfaces.
By default a router has one interface at the south-position.
- Click with the right mouse onto the router and select
"Interface..." from the context menu.
- The interface dialog will be displayed.
- Select or disselect the interfaces you want with the checkboxes (North,
West, South or East) and enter a valid ip-address for each interface
- and confirm with:
- OK: the changes will be
saved and the dialog closes.
- Apply: the changes will
be saved and the dialog stays open.
- Cancel: the dialog will be closed.
Change the ip address of a router's interface(s)
- Click with the right mouse onto the router and select
"Interface..." from the context menu.

The interface dialog will be displayed.
- Now change the ip addresses for the interface(s). Make sure, that the interfaces
you want to use are active (
) and confirm with:
- OK: the changes will be saved and the dialog closes.
- Apply: the changes will be saved and the dialog stays open.
- Cancel: the dialog will be closed.
Edit the routing table of a router
Purpose:
That a package can find his way through the network you have to complete the routing
table of all routers.
If you want, you can copy a routing table from another host or router, which saves you alot of
work.
- Click with the right mouse onto the router and select
"Routing Table..." from the context menu.
- The routing table dialog of this router will be
displayed.
- add a routing table entry with the button
modify a selected routing table entry with the button
delete a selected routing table entriy with the button

move up a selected routing table entriy with the button 
move up a selected routing table entriy with the button 
>
and confirm with:
- OK: the new routing
table will be saved and the dialog will be closed.
- Apply: the new routing
table will be saved and the dialog stays open.
- Cancel: the dialog will be closed.
You have the possibility to copy a routing table from another network component.
- select the network component from the list under the
routing table
- confirm with the button "Copy"
Insert a host
You have two possibilities:
- click with the right mouse into the drawing area and
select "Insert Host"

- select the menuitem "Insert - Host"

and then click into the drawing area

Change the name of a host
- Click with the right mouse onto the host and select
"Properties..." from the context menu.
The property dialog of this host will be displayed.

- Enter the new name for this host into the textfield "Name:" and confirm with:
- OK: the new name will
be displayed under the host and the dialog will be closed.
- Apply: the new name
will be displayed under the host and the dialog stays open.
- Cancel: the host keeps his old name and the dialog will be closed.
Change the ip address of a host
- Click with the right mouse onto the host and select
"Interface..." from the context menu.

The interface dialog will be displayed.

- Now change the ip addresses in the textfield for this host and confirm with:
- OK: the changes will be saved and the dialog closes.
- Apply: the changes will
be saved and the dialog stays open.
- Cancel: the dialog will be closed.
Edit the routing table of a host
Purpose:
That a package can find his way through the network you have to complete the routing
table of the host. A host has only one entry, so only change the gateway and the netmask
of the existing entry.
If you want, you can copy a routing table from another host or router, which saves you alot of
work.
- Click with the right mouse onto the host and select
"Routing Table..." from the context menu.

host will be displayed.

- add a routing table entry with the button

You have the possibility to copy a routing table from another network component.
- select the network component from the list under the
routing table
- confirm with the button "Copy"
Connect two network components
Purpose:
You want to connect a host to a router's interface or a router's interface to another
router's interface.
It is not possible to:
- connect a host to another host
- a router's interface to a host and another router
- have two different connection between two routers
How to do it:
Simply connect to components with drag and drop, start with one component's blue surrounding
and drop by the other's surrounding. If the component is a router, make sure the connection starts
from a valid interface.

Delete a connection between two network
component
click with the right mouse onto the connection and select "Delete".
Start the animation
You want to see, how a package goes through the network?
Make sure you haven't forgotten a point mentioned below and then
click on "Start"
on condition that you have:
you can start the animation.
Stop the animation
Click on the button "Stop"
Step by step through the animation
Purpose:
Use the button "Step" instead of "Start", in case you want to observe how
the animation goes through the routing table entry by entry. Every time you want to make
the next step, click on the button "Step".
To switch back to a continuous animation, click on the button "Continue".
on condition that you have:
you can step into the animation.
Speed up or slow down the animation
Purpose: You can define how fast the
animation goes through the routing table.
- enter a valid number (integer) into the field "Speed"
- confirm with the button "Set"
Attention: a high number slows down the animation
Example of a network
You can use a working network by selecting an entry from the menu "Demo". To start the animation follow
the intruction under Start Animation
or Step Animation
- Change the network as you want by adding or deleting hosts, routers or connections.
- Move the hosts and routers by dragging the elements over the drawing area.
